Ahhhh, my poor, poor little neglected knitting blog. Someday I will truly post more on a regular basis. Alas, 2011 was not the year to do that!

Actually, I was looking at my goals for 2011 post, and, well-yeah. Haven't even begun to try to organize my stash, I don't think I finished any UFOs lately. Eh, it's only September, right? ;)

This year has not been a total waste craft-wise. I did sew a purse and make a Steampunk Elephant pin (which I need to post on Wandering. I've also been working on several different projects this year.

Here's an updated pic of the Rainbow Wrap I started in 2010, using Jo-Ann's Rainbow Boucle yarn:

I don't know why I continue to try to work with boucle yarn-it's difficult to work with-thin and tangley. Yet I keep trying! I've already put one boucle project on hold-I'm determined to finish this one!

In March and April (actually, I may have started as early as February this year), I worked on headbands for our Relay for Life team at CWRU. I thought I had some pictures uploaded, but apparently not-will have to get some!!

This summer I have been working on a baby blanket for Persephone! She is due towards the end of this month. So far I am 1-1 on finishing baby blankets before the little tots are born. I finished Mal's baby blanket a mere hour before she was born-and poor Bella-her's is not finished yet!! As with the Rainbow Wrap, I am determined to finish that blanket-even if it has to be a babydoll blanket. ;) As long as Perseph's little one decides not to come early, I should be okay. This time I picked a simpler pattern to work on-a blanket which has 81 3 inch knitted squares, like so:

The yarn is Lion Brand's Vanna's Choice Baby:

It may be a simple blanket, but it is being knitted with love, and, as an added bonus-part of the proceeds from the purchase of this yarn is donated to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, which I think is really awesome. :)

I have finally finished the squares:

(Colors from top to bottom are Sweat Pea; Duckie; Goldfish; Bluebell; Pink Poodle; and Lamb)

I'm currently working on sewing the squares into strips, then sewing the strips together. Since my squars are not perfect 3x3 squares, I may end up crocheting a border around the blanket, to make it look more even. In any case, I did not need all the required yarn at all-in fact, when the pattern called for 2 skeins, I ended up only using one. I'll have some more yarn to add to my stash (which I really must organize, LOL).

Bleeding the Green and Gold: Super Bowl XLV Hat &Scarf

Okay, so not being a native of Green Bay (or Wisconsin for that matter), maybe I don't have the right to say I bleed green&gold. However, The Green Bay Packers have been the team that I have rooted for for as long as I have been a football fan (much to the dismay of my Viking-lovin' sister). :) Was I excited when they made it to the Super Bowl? Heck, ya!

I decided in honor of the occasion, I would make a hat and scarf in Green Bay colors (very practical for when my dream of seeing a game at Lambeau Field comes true. ;)) Since I loved the Ribbed Earflap Hat pattern so much, I decided to use it again for this project.

First I checked out Lion Brand's yarn to see if they had colors in their Wool-Ease Thick &Quick line that would work out...I thought Cilantro and Citron would work well. Unfortunately, when I went to JoAnn's, the only color they had in stock was the Cilantro, and I felt Butterscotch was too orange. Not to be outdone, I wandered around the store to see if I could find the equivalent (or another display, as the T&Q was on sale). Instead, I came across Lion Brand's Hometown USA, a 100% acrylic super-bulky weight yarn. Picked up a bright yellow skein labeled 'Pittsburgh Yellow'. I hesitated a bit-was it right to make a hat for the BIG game in a color named after the opponent? Then I spotted these shiny green skeins near the bottom of the rack. Picked one up and discovered it was called 'Green Bay'. No. Freakin'. Way.

This was just too perfect.

Casting all doubts aside, I purchased the yarn. Even the cashier appreciated the irony of it all. :-D (of course I purchased more green-it needed to be the dominant color!)

To adjust, I simply started knitting in yellow, then switched to green when I had knitted enough to make the brim:

I made the ear flaps green as well, but added a strand of yellow for the braid:

Of course, the pom-pom was yellow, with a hint of green:

Put it all together: Ta-daa!

I made the scarf out of the yarn I didn't need for the hat. I made a guess and divided the yellow into two smaller balls. The plan was to knit a k2, p2 rib-2 rows green then 2 rows yellow for one end, then knit the rib in green for a bit, then switch back to green and yellow stripes. I almost had enough yarn for 8 yellow stripes on both ends! (the last stripe of yellow is only one row).

The results weren't too bad:

Ear Flap Hat and Scarf

Yay to finished projects!!! Even though I purchased the yarn for this hat just before Thanksgiving, I really didn’t get around to starting the hat until the 17th of January. This pattern was super easy-I finished it in a week!

Yay, earflaps! (seriously, whoever came up with the idea to add earflaps to hats was genius):

So the pattern called for 2 skeins. Looking at comments from folks who had already worked the project, I read that if you left off the earflaps and the pompom, you’d only need one. I kept the earflaps and the pompom and still had yarn left over from the first skein (which did worry me a bit-turns out I had nothing to worry about at all!) Since I always seem to follow up a hat with a scarf, I decided to use the second skein for a scarf (good thing I didn’t purhcase yarn for the scarf before I had finished the hat!)

I didn’t use a specific pattern for the scarf. I just decided to combine a k2, p2 rib with garter stitches making a border on each end:

Since I wanted the scarf to match the hat, I added pompoms to both ends:

I managed to finish this in 4 days! :)

Yarn: Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick& Quick #154 Gray Marble (2 skeins)
Needles: Size 13, straight (14 inch for the hat, 10 inch for the scarf)

Notes: only used one skein for the hat-I would still by 2 skeins-use what you don’t use to make a scarf. Only problem with holding off on purchasing yarn for the scarf is that if you need more for your scarf, you might not get the same dye lot.

Pattern said to fold 3.5 inches for the rim-I only did 2.5.

I finished this scarf just in time for that mega winter storm that hit most of the U.S. earlier this week. They win my approval!!!!

I loved this hat pattern so much I decided to make one for the Superbowl! Details on that project coming next week!

So today I came across two more patterns I would like to try.

For Firefly fans:
Jayne's Hat
I really like this pattern-it uses Red Heart Super Saver Yarn-an inexpensive yarn!!! It does require knitting in the round with circular needles, but I gotta improve my knitting in the round skills sometime. ;)

The second I came across in one of my Caron Connections emails:
Xian Knit Kimono Jacket
I especially like this pattern because it includes plus size measurements! It does require alot of yarn though, and one of Caron's more expensive yarns, which can blow my yarn budget apart. ;) One of these days I'm going to make a goal to knit a sweater or jacket, and start setting aside a little bit of money here and there so I can purchase the yarn requirements. :)

Knitting Goals for 2011 (and 2010 in review)

Well, it occurred to me that maybe I should post some goals for 2011. Some might seem pretty easy, but you’d think different if you saw the complete list of UFOs that are in my project book. ;)

So, without further ado (and in no particular order):

-knit a pair of Tardis socks (those socks are AWESOME!) I need to learn not to be afraid of completing a project that is knitted in the round.

-complete all projects started in 2010 (there’s only one left, so this should be easy)

-complete at least one UFO started prior to 2009. Bella’s Blanket, multi socks, K-9, I need to finish something! An interesting side note-I didn’t start a single new project in 2009. I may have worked on a couple of things here and there, but no new projects.

-use leftover yarn from Pearl-Ribbed Slipper Socks to make hat from yarn label. A few years ago I made three pairs of these socks-I had quite a bit of leftover yarn-I think I have enough to make a hat whose pattern was on the yarn label. ;)

-enter all projects into Ravelry.

-update blog sidebars

-do an inventory of needles & hooks-type, size, length. Back in Dayton, I thought I needed an E-hook. I had searched everywhere, and couldn’t find one. So I go ahead and by one while at Hancock Fabrics, get back to Cleveland, and guess what I found-my E hook. Ha!

Completed in 2010:
I did work on my multi socks and my crocheted Dalek, as well as a poncho I had started a while back, but I didn’t finish any of them. I did however, finish three projects I had started in 2010:

-my weekend scarf: I’m only calling it my weekend scarf because I completed it in one weekend. LOL.

-Relay for Life Headbands: Oooh, I don’t think I posted pictures for these. I made headbands for everyone on my Relay for Life team. Turns out they were a hit-even the guys wore them! ;) It also helped that it was a pretty chilly Relay. They helped keep folks warm! I’ll have to post some pictures.

-Steampunk Spatterdashes: as a part of a Halloween costume! Not only did I use yarn from my stash, but I managed to whip these up pretty quickly in time for Halloween. I’ll be using them again for Marcon this year.

-Rainbow Wrap: I started this back in September. It’s not finished yet, but the pattern isn’t too difficult, so I should be able to finish it. This yarn had also been sitting in my stash for quite a while.

Well, that’s about it. I started my first new project for 2011: Ribbed Earflap Hat! I’m using Lion Brand Thick & Quick, so it should knit up fairly quickly. I was looking at some online posts, and it sounds like I might have quite a bit of yarn left over. I’m hoping I’ll have enough for a scarf. :) WIP pics soon!

Happy New Year!

December got away from me in terms of knitting-I didn’t get the chance to post anything, but that’s ok-I didn’t get the chance to knit at all. (good thing I wasn’t knitting any Christmas presents this year!)

So back in September I started a wrap with yarn I had purchased a few years ago: JoAnn’s Rainbow Boucle (dark blue). Back in November, I traveled to Kettering with the Ice Hawks so I could hang out with K while her mom played hockey. I brought my knitting with me and K was fascinated with my big ball of yarn (which, at the time, was bigger than her head...in fact, it probably still is bigger than her head. LOL)

The wrap itself is a very simple pattern-garter stictches, yarn overs, dropping the yo’s. It’s a great thing to me to work on while watching tv, riding in a car, and hanging out wiht people because it’s easy to find out where you are in your work if you get distracted and loose your place. ;) Here’s one of the first pictures I took of my progress:

While in Kettering, we had some time between hockey games, so we stopped at Hancock Fabrics (they have them in Minnesota and Southern Ohio, but there aren’t any here in Northeast Ohio-boo!) They happened to be having a sale on Lion Brand’s Wool East Thick& Quick, so K and Tina helped me pick out some yarn for the ear flap hat I want to make:

The pattern looks simple enough. Next weekend is me and Perseph’s annual Girls Weekend-I’m planning on starting this hat during the weekend (as well as continuing with my blue rainbow wrap). Who knows-I might actually finish the hat-after all, last year I started and completed a knitted scarf. :) I can’t wait!

I remember first catching Vickie Howell on PBS during one of my Christmas trips to Minnesota. My friend Shanna liked to catch her show whenever she could (don't remember how long ago it was...) I thought she was really cool.

A few months ago I became super excited when I discovered she had a blog on blogspot. Once I get around to updating the sidebar links, you'll definitely see a link to her blog. I am a little behind in reading (I have way to many feeds in my reader. 0-:)), but here are a few patterns that caught my eye over the last week:

In an effort to keep this blog more active, I thought I would post some pictures of projects I have been working on. :-D

Although the other two projects I will feature in this post are still UFOs, this is an actual finished project!! Every January Perseph's husband goes to the CWRU Film Society's Scifi Marathon. Usually it's right after the students return from winter break, around MLK Day. That weekend, Perseph and I have a girls weekend, and usually have a marathon of our own. :) Last year it was Family Guy, and I wanted to knit while watching-but it had to be something simple, as I didn't want to loose my place at the slightest distraction. Hence, this scarf was born. Knitted with Lion Brand Homespun yarn on size 13 needles. I used two colors knitted together: #85 Fuchsia & #386 Grape, in a straight garter stitch. This yarn was actually given to me by a friend who had trouble working with Homespun yarn (it tends to fray). I love pulling yarn out of my stash and finding a use for it! Dunno what I'll make next January-maybe I'll get adventurous, or maybe I'll just play it safe. ;)

Speaking of patterns that need to be done with minimal distractions, I know I've talked about it, but never have posted any pics. Well, here is proof that I really am working on a baby blanket!

Although Bella is getting big, I am determined to finish this blanket for her-even if it's just given as an heirloom, she will eventually get this!! This pattern tends to give me a hard time because I can be easily distracted, then loose count-I need to find a nice quite afternoon so I can work on it some more. Here is a little more detail:

Isn't it pretty? Even though I'm not a Vikings fan, her folks are, and I'm sure she's becoming one. (btw, the pattern just happened to call for the yellow and purple-or rather, Lemonade and Grape. ;)) The pattern is one I found in a Creative Knitting magazine, and is being knitted on a size 6 circular needle.

I do crochet!! I've had a couple of successful crochet projects (purses for my nieces). I don't remember how I found this-it was featured on one of my geeky lists. A crocheted Dalek!!!! The creator was on LiveJournal, and after she finished making one of her own, graciously shared the pattern with the rest of us crafty scifi geeks. :) I don't know why I have so much trouble with crochet, but I do. Here's the current status of my Dalek:

Kinda looks like a PacMan Ghost with a funny nose. ;)

I haven't completely abandoned it-I hope to one day create an army that can roam about a fuzzy Skaro. ;)

A finished project! (Steampunk spats)

I finished a project! I decided I wanted to make up a steampunk'd theme costume for Halloween this year. Unfortunately, thanks to my thick calves, it's really hard to find boots that go beyond the ankles.

I was browsing the web, looking for alternatives, when I came across a pattern for Steampunk Spatterdashes (check out the pattern here) Although the pattern calls for Moda Dea Bamboo Wool, I used Red Heart SuperSaver yarn, and it seemed to work out pretty well:

Love the button straps with the seed stitch pattern!

They might be a little longer than I would like (it stretches quite a bit when I put them on), but I figure I can make a new shorter pair for Marcon this year, depending on how these work out. I can't wait to try these out at the Halloween party tomorrow!

In other knitting news, I joined Ravelry earlier this week. At first it was just so I could download a cool Tardis amigurumi pattern that was featured on Craftzine recently. But then I discovered it had alot of cool features-so I started to get more involved, adding projects (a grand total of 3 so far-but I'm working on it!), finding friends, looking at all the cool free patterns they have. It's an awesome site-I don't know why I didn't join it before! ;) If you're on, look me up-I can be found as romana1977. :)

New Template

Hmmm...the thing about new strategies is that you have to actually have to have time to do what you wanted to do!! ;)

Nine months-a new record for me! At least I'm finally getting around to switching to a new template-Minima was nice and clean, but it was rather boring. ;) I switched this blog to custom designs, which will allow me to add elements to the template. I created a blog for the Italian Band which I used the custom design option, and I rather like it. I still have to sort out the section for our current projects (it's a little messy-and the colors I used with some of the fonts clashes with the current background.) I will clean that up a bit, but at least for now it's still on the blog. ;)

Oh! And look! You can subscribe to the blog now! (or follow it with Google Friend Connect).

That's all for now. I'm planning on posting some pics of projects I've worked on over the past year. I've also started a new project-well, rather, I did a cast on-but the yarn is difficult (at least for me), so I haven't been able to knit a row after the cast on without ripping it all out. (whee!) ;)

Well, it's January 2010!!! Guess what-I actually completed a project!

Unfortunately, it wasn't one of the many I had started prior to 2010.

Perseph and I had our annual girls weekend last weekend. Our marathon this year was Family Guy OMG, it was the perfect marathon for both of us-it's the one show we both can watch over and over and not get tired of. ;)

Anyhoo, during our marathon, I started a scarf Friday night, which I finished up during the AFC Jets/Chargers playoff game. My friend Kim had some yarn her mother gave her-Lion Brand's Homespun. Kim and her mom really don't like using it because it frays too much. I love it-knit with two strands and it knits up to some soft and warm hats and scarves. I usually don't have a problem with the yarn-but I tend to use size 13 (or larger) needles when I knit with Homespun. Since I wasn't sure how much had been used, I decided to make a scarf. It turned out a little shorter than I would have liked, but it's not too bad.

Now I must take a picture so I can prove to you that I did! ;)

Once again, I have on my resolutions list to give this blog's template a makeover-lets see if it happens this year! lol

New strategy

Okie-dokie. I am coming up with a new strategy. I've been away from knitting for too long! I've got to do something about this.

Picking up a somewhat difficult (for me, anyway) pattern after a 2 year hiatus is just bad (see previous attempt at baby blanket). I need something I can work on without having to concentrate so much. I'd like to just sit and relax and knit-I need to get back into the flow...

My yarn stash has finally made it home!!(well, most of it-I fear I still have a box lost somewhere in the depths of storage...) Tucked away in my cedar closet. I noticed I have alot of random skeins-you know-the kind you impulse buy-usually you only buy one or two-not enough to make much out of...but it was so pretty!!! Well, I've been thinking I might use those to make scarves-all kinds of scarves: ones to keep you warm, novelty scarves... I'll start out with a basic pattern, then work my way up to more difficult ones...perhaps even lace. Eventually I hope to become comfortable enough with knitting again that I can finally finish some of the projects that have fallen to the wayside. (I WILL finish Bella's baby blanket!!!!!!) I also might use this as an opportunity to work on my crochet skills as well...

What will I do with these scarves? I have no idea. Give them as gifts, donate them, perhaps try to sell a couple at a bazaar or something. Who knows? Gotta knit them first!

Wow! Two days in a row! A new record! ;)

Last night while watching tv, I decided to pick up my needles again. I worked on Bella's baby blanket for about an hour, and only got 2 rows done! :( I forgot how much concentration I needed to work on the central panel, and even though I was watching a repeat episode of CSI, I still got distracted! Knitting while watching tv needs to be limited to really simple projects...or at least, projects that I haven't ignored for months! ;)

Just a quick post to keep this blog alive. I still haven't picked up my needles since I moved. In fact, my yarn stash is still in storage. I need to organize my living room closet-it's a cedar closet and would be perfect for yarn storage! Anyhoo, all I have at home is the baby blanket I am (or rather, should be) working on.

By the time I finish Bella's baby blanket, she'll be in school!!!

Just a quick note-yes, I'm still here! I haven't been updating this site because I haven't really had the time to knit (or do any other crafty projects) since I moved.
:( Hopefully this will change with the coming of the new year! :)

Once things settle down from the holidays, (and I pull my yarn stash out of storage!) I plan on starting up again. :)

Oooh! another long bout without any posts here. Shoot.

Work on Shanna's baby blanket is coming along...albeit slowly. In fact, the baby came before the blanket was finished! (well, i sorta expected that to happen)

Welcome, Isabella!!! Your blanket should be ready by Christmas!!! :)

Must post pictures of it's progress. Despite the fact that it's coming along slowly, I'm really quite happy with the way it's turning out. The lace pattern isn't too bad, once you get the hang of it. ;)

baby blanket update

Just a brief update!!

I've been working on Shanna's baby blanket-i've finished the lower borders-both the lace and the slip-stitch. Didn't have too much trouble with the slip-stitch border-that was actually pretty easy. I just started working on the center panel-I was hoping to have more of it done so I could have an establish pattern before I went on vacation, but I just haven't had the time.

The center panel is similar to the lace pattern, and although it may be difficult the first pattern cycle, once it's established and I've done a few repetitions, it'll become easier. I can work on it in front of people, and not have to worry about getting distracted and loosing count when someone sneezes! LOL. ;)

I took a picture when I finished the lower lace border-I didn't get a chance to post it yet. Now that I've done quite a few more rows-I'm going to need a new picture! Boy, I'm slow. ;) Someday, I will start posting progress pics again!

My UFOs are numerous-if I were to tell you the number of unfinished projects I have, you would sit there and laugh at me and say, 'you're no knitter!'

Ok, maybe you wouldn't. ;)

I started a baby blanket for Shanna-it's slow going, 'cause silly me, decided to knit one with a lace pattern in it! The pattern is "School Colors for Baby" from the September 2007 issue of Creative Knitting. Oooh! It's a good thing I looked up the name on their website-a correction had been posted!!

Still working on the same K-9 toy that I was last year. It's not a difficult project-I just haven't had the time to finish the poor guy!!

Now that Persephone has graduated with her Masters in social work (you go, girl!!!) we are hoping to start up our Saturday night coffee shop knitting/crochetting outings again. We also should be able to start going to crochet club on a regular basis. Hopefully this will inspire me to post here more (with pics!) as well. :)

Another long stretch without posting! What's with me?

Well, I started another project! When was the last time I finished one? I dunno. LOL. I started a baby blanket for my friend Shanna-she's expecting in August. I found the pattern in my November issue of Creative Knitting. It's purple and gold, which happens to be the Vikings colors, of which they are fans. :) My first goal is to have it done before she gives birth...my second: before the baby can walk. LOL!

Still working on a K-9. I finished the 2 sides and started the gusset. I also worked on my poncho a bit (while driving to Cincinatti this past weekend-straight St-st, easy to do while traveling.) I have one panel done, and I started on the other. I'm calling this my 'Spur-of-the-Moment Poncho' (since I bought the yarn with the pattern on it and the needles at Walmart while I was in MN this past Christmas)

I've been thinking about changing my template from a two collumn to a three collumn-I'll have to see. I also want to get something that will show the percentage completed of my projects (even though they might not change much!) LOL. We'll see. First I need to have the time to figure out the html code! ;)

Oh, my!!! I haven't posted anything here since October!!! Well, partly because since I've moved, I haven't had much time for knitting-so I didn't have anything new to post.

Hopefully 2008 will bring more time for knitting and other crafty projects (I got my very own sewing machine back in November!!! I'm gonna make a costume for Doctor Who! ;) )

Well, it's the end of October, and I haven't worked on any projects at all!! My yarn stash hasn't even made it to my new place yet. (It's still in storage...*sigh*)

Because of my move this year, I had decided that I wouldn't try to knit (or crochet) and Christmas gifts this year-I'd probably be stressing about them right now! But I do miss knitting....

My new place is coming along-and I can't wait for my yarn to come home! LOL. :)

Quick note-the magazine I subscribe to, Creative Knitting is really on the ball-when I went to change my address, and discovered it had already changed!! (I am curious how that happened, I thought I had to change magazine subscriptions. I wonder if my Kraft Foods magazine will do the same thing... ) ;)

Yikes-I didn't post at all in August. I have a good excuse-really I do!! I am moving at the end of the month-so I've been packing like crazy.

Of course, since I haven't had time to post, I haven't had much time to knit (or crochet-still working on that Dalek!) either. I'm still working on a K-9 and a Dalek-progress is slow, but I think the pieces of K-9 are coming along nicely. The jury is still out on my Dalek, though-it's head kinda looks like a hat for a very tiny baby. LOL It's weird, I think it may be inside out...but I'm going to wait to see what it looks like when I get to the popcorn stitches before I frog it (if I decide to frog it) I've been working on my projects at the crochet club Perseph and I go to every month, and at Starbucks (we try to have a weekly gathering at starbucks, just to hang out). I haven't worked on anything at home practically all summer. In fact, about 95% of my yarn stash is all packed up now. LOL ;)

Well, it's getting late-dont' know when i'll have time to update this again. Pictures will have to wait until after I move. (sorry!)

A midsummer's night update!

I'm back from vacation! Well, I've been back for a week now, just didnt' have time to update this blog.

I didn't do any knitting at all while I was away-I brought a couple of projects, but didnt' work on them. (That was usually happens when I go on vacation). So all of my current knitting projects are in the same state as they were before I left. ;)

However, my Mom did teach me how to do more than just single crochet, so we both started a crochet Dalek. She is much farther along than I am-I only have about half of the head -a few rows after the eye piece-done. I'm not sure how far my Mom is now, but she was farther than that the last time I saw her Dalek. LOL.

I discovered that I am a very tight crocheter-Mom and I were using the same size hook, same type of yarn, but her Dalek was much bigger than mine. I have to work on easing up on the tention a bit-either that, or get used to using a larger sized hook.

Hey, I'd like to give a shout out to Persephone!! While I was on vacation, she learned to knit!!! I"m so excited-she showed me the scarf she's working on, and it looks beautiful! I'm so proud. :) She asked me to help her with ribbing-she says everytime she tries it, it looks funky. I told her no problem-as long as she helps me with some of the more difficult crochet stitches. ;) She agreed!! :-D

Well, that's about all for now-hopefully I'll get some pictures up of my progress soon.

Summer knitting projects!!

My [new] summer projects (so far) are as follows: K-9 toys, Daleks (crochet), and a lace scarf (pattern from my calendar). I was thinking about adding an afghan that I want to make for my sister, but that might be bumped down to a fall project. I have no idea if I'll be able to finish what I have on my plate (especially since I haven't gotten any crochet help yet! LOL) I've already told my mom I'm bringing my yarn and crochet hooks and the pattern up north with me-I asked her if she'd help me with the Dalek pattern. :-D

Speaking of up north-I'm heading up to Minnesota this weekend! YAY! Finally!!! I've been looking forward to my vacation for a long time now. I just need to figure out what projects I'm going to bring with me.

I've already started working on one of the K-9s. I finished the first side on Thursday and started the second one Saturday night at Starbucks (Perseph and I decided to try to get together every Saturday night at a coffee shop to work on our projects-like a little mini stitch-n-bitch. As excited as I am to go to MN, I'm a little sad that I'll be missing it for the next few weeks). I doubt I'll have time to post pictures before I leave (it's not all that exciting yet!)

my slouching socks
Okay, I started these ages ago-they were the first pair of socks I ever attempted to knit. My pearl-ribbed slipper socks were actually the third pair of footwear I've attempted-and the first ones I finished, all three pairs!
The skinny on the socks:
Pattern: from Easy Knitted Accessories by Jeanette Trotman
Needles: size 5& 6, straight needles
Yarn: Lilly Sugar&Cream, 100% cotton. Salt-n-Pepper print
Started: late 2004; Completed: January 2007

I started these way back in late 2004-I liked the pattern because it didn't require knitting in the round-since I was still fairly new to knitting when I started these. Other projects kept coming up-and since these were low on the priority list, they kept getting moved into the UFO box. Every once in a while I'd take them out and work on them, but something always came up, and back in they'd go! They are a little big-I started these before I had learned the fine art of yarn weights. If you're not gonna use the same yarn as the pattern-you should at least try to match the weight!! ;) I actually finished these this past January-see? even when they are completed, the pics don't make it to the blog for nearly 6 months!!

I was dying to try out this yarn ever since I saw an ad for it in one of my catalogs back in January. Self-patterning yarns-fair isle like pattern? Sweet! So I bought some, and had no idea what I'd make with it. Then I noticed the pattern for the hat on one of the yarn labels-yay!!!

Hey, hey! Not only two posts in one month, but two posts in the same week! Yay!!!

I finally uploaded some more pictures-I've got another post for a couple of completed projects (hey, three posts in one month! Woo-hoo!)

I broke down and ordered some yarn to add to my yarn stash. Last week, Mary Maxim was having a sale on Bernat Galaxy yarn, so I bought some of this:

This will eventually be turned into a lapghan...a crocheted lapghan. I can do the basic crochet stitch, but that's about it. I'm going to have to check out the Happy Hooker, and ask my Mom and Perseph (since classes should be over for her soon!) for help. ;)

April knitting- a month in review

I finished my Strata hat!! Now I just have to get pics up. LOL. I'm planning on making one for one of my coworkers-no hurry. She just wants it done by next winter. *hee*. I want to make a scarf to go with the hat-I just have to come up with a pattern...

Speaking of knitting for people-a while ago someone who found my main blog, Wandering Through E-Space discovered not only was I a Doctor Who fan, but enjoyed knitting as well. He asked if I'd be interested in knitting a K-9 for him. *hee* What a great excuse to try a new pattern!!! :-D I just ordered the yarn-so hopefully I'll be able to get started on it soon. I also ordered some Bernat Galaxy yarn (Mary Maxim had it on sale for 97 cents/ball!) There's a crochet pattern that I want to try. I would like to broaden my crochet skills.

Oooh! Speaking of crochet, Shigella, over at LiveJournal, should have her Dalek pattern out soon!! I can't wait! I want to make an army of soft, cuddly Daleks. *heeheeheee* >:-)

I started another prayershawl-using a standard pattern and some pretty yarn. This one has an unusual story behind it that I'm not quite ready to share...

I have really neglected this blog-and that was never my intention. :(

Oh, well, enough lamenting over the past-time to move forward!! ;)

First of all, a picture! I've finally posted a picture!! These are the slipper socks that I knitted for my mom, my sister, and myself for Christmas:

I know it's a little gray-sorry about that. My digital camera isn't the best in the world-but it'll do. ;)

Unfortunately, I lost my digital camera just 2 days before Christmas (I actually was able to track it down-thanks to the nice people of Perkins in Blaine, MN-it's now home, safe and sound)so I don't have any, what I like to call, 'instant gratification' pictures of the other gifts I knitted for Christmas-but there were other cameras on the scene-so hopefully I'll be able to track some pictures down.

I have to take a couple more pictures-one of the slouching socks I finally finished, and another of a hat I'm currently working on. :)

I'm creating a new section on my sidebar. There have been several patterns that I've really wanted to try, but just didn't have the time for-so I've decided to create a 'future projects' section in the sidebar. If I see a pattern I really, really want to try, but don't have the time for, I'll list it in the future projects section-the name of the pattern, and where I found it, so I can find it again. :)

Speaking of templates, this template is kinda boring-simple, but boring. I really need to think about finding a new one-or ways to spruce this one up a bit. Ahh...so much to do, so little time. ;)

Yay!! I finally finished my slouching socks!!! They've been in the UFO pile for so long-it's about time I finally got them done!

Now that I got my digital camera back (llloooonggg story...) I'll have to take a picture of them-and actually post them. (yeah, right.) ;)

I know I should probably try to finish more in my UFO pile, but I have some new yarn and a new pattern I'm dying to try...

I am so bad. ;)

Ha-ha!!! I have finished all three pairs of slipper socks!!!! And they were finished before I head up north! Yay! Less work I have to do while I'm there!

Actually, some of my other projects aren't doing too badly. I just need to add fringe to Boo's purse, and T's only needs a few more rows before I can sew it up and add the strap and fringe. Mellon's purse still needs to be felted, but I'm hoping I can do that at my sister's. Shan's is the only project I'm worried about. I still need to add a few inches to the headband, and I haven't even started the scarf yet. Hopefully the scarf won't take too long. I purchased a pair of size 15 plastic needles-only 10 inches long. I'm going to try to take them on the plane with me, and work on it while I'm waiting to board, and perhaps while in flight. I know knitting needles are allowed now, but I've heard stories about things being confiscated which were on the okay list. Even though the plastic needles are Boye's Balene II (my favorite plastic needles-I love the way they feel when you knit with them), if I were to loose them, it wouldn't be a huge loss. (I'd be disappointed, but thanks to the weekly Jo-Ann's coupons, they weren't that expensive.)

Hmm...I think that's all for now. I already have a New Years resolution in mind, concerning this blog-post more than once a month, and POST MORE PICTURES! lol. :)

Christmas projects

Yikes! I meant to post during the month of October...oops! I also need to get on the ball and post some pictures. I'm terrible about that-terribly lazy. ;)

My Christmas projects are coming along nicely. I have one more slipper sock to complete and then they will be finished. I sort of slacked off a little-my mom was visiting in October, and I couldn't really work on her Christmas present right in front of her! ;)

I've also almost completed my first crochet project-I am making purses for the older girls-Boo's is complete except for the fringe. I'm currently working on T's. I haven't decided if I'll sew in snaps or velcro so they can shut them-so I decided to hold off on the fringe of Boo's until T's is ready for fringe as well.

I've started another purse for Mellon (hey, she may only be almost 2, but she's old enough to want what her big sisters want.) I'm knitting a bag that needs to be felted (my first felting project!). It has thicker handles that she can grab onto. This project knits up real fast-so I think the thing that will take time will be the felting. If I have enough time to knit this weekend, I may actually get all the knitting for it done.

I'm also working on a headband and scarf set for Shan-she saw T and Boo's scarves I made last year and really liked them. I promised her awhile ago that I'd make her something, so hopefully I will have this completed before Christmas, too. ;)

Well, I guess that's all for now-maybe I'll get around to posting some pics before I leave next month! ;)

Slipper socks done!

Yay! Saturday I finished my first pair of slipper socks! I'm so excited! They were really easy to knit(and they are so comfy!)-I've already started on my second pair. At this rate, I'll be done well before Christmas! Must post pictures...

Unfortunately the socks leave behind quite a bit of yarn. If you're using the Lion Brand Chunky yarn (which is what the pattern calls for), one ball is not quite enough for two-so you need an extra ball. I wondered what I was going to do with all the extra yarn, so I decided I'm going to try to attempt to make some wristwarmers that use bulky yarn. I found a pattern that looks simple enough, although I need to get a new set of double pointed needles-the pattern calls for 9s, and the biggest I have are only 7s. I see a 50% off coupon from Micheal's in the paper, so I'm going to get a set of bamboo needles (I know I said I wasn't too fond of bamboo, but my first bamboo needles were 3s, and I was using sock yarn-larger needles and thicker yarn makes a better bamboo experience.) ;)

I've also taught myself to crochet-I can only do single crochet, but it's enough to make a couple of simple purses for my neices for Christmas. (again, I need to post pictures).

Even though I forgot to report it, I reached all my goals Labor Day weekend-I knitted/shaped the heel for my slouching socks, started the Christmas projects, and taught myself basic crochet. I was so proud of myself! Now if I can just keep knitting the slipper socks at the same pace I've been doing-it'll all be good!

Ahh, the end of August-and I haven't posted here! I really need to get back into the habit of posting my progress...what little of it there is. ;)

I actually picked up a project I had put on hold last year for Christmas knitting-I've been slowly working on my slouching socks-knitting a few rows here and there. I'm almost ready to start the shaping of the heel on the second sock-hopefully I'll be able to do that this weekend-even though St. Rocco's festival is this weekend-I'll have Monday off-perhaps that'll be the day to just sit back and knit. ;)

Speaking of Christmas knitting-a couple of weeks ago I picked up some yarn for a couple of Christmas projects. Here's one:

Well, that's all for now-my goal this weekend is to shape the heel on my slouching sock, and get started on my Christmas projects. Knowing me, though-I probably should've started them in June! ;)

LAzy summer knitting....

Uff-da! It's been so long since I posted here-one would think I'd forgotten how to knit.

Nope, that's not the case-I've just been incredibly lazy-lazy about posting here, lazy about knitting. I haven't been doing much this summer-although I finally straightened out my Mom's prayershawl (yay, correct number of stitches!) and I picked up a project that I had put in my UFO basket. I decided to put my slouching socks back on the needles-it's a fairly easy pattern, and can be done while watching tv or chatting with people-without the fear of loosing my place if I get too distracted. Of course, with every new issue of Creative Knitting I get, I find several more patterns that I'm just dying to try out!!! NEED TO FIND TIME TO KNIT!!! ;)

This Thursday Persephone and I are going to the Crochet Club meeting-this week it's going to be a potluck, and I'm really looking forward to it. Apparently one of the members of the club brought their knitting while I was away on vacation, and asked where I was. *heehee* It's nice to be remembered. *sshhh* don't tell them, but I've been contemplating bringing a crochet hook and some extra yarn and asking someone to teach me how to crochet (well, reteach me-my Mom taught me how when I was in junior high, but I didn't do it enough so I forgot how. ) I think the only thing I made was a scarf for one of my Barbie dolls. LOL.

Rug Revisited (With a Photo!)

I kind of had a brain fart and forgot how to post and plus I've been very lazy and bad about posting on this blog. So remember way back when I had made a post about the rug I had made and donated for a raffle at the Center for Dialysis Care where I am a volunteer? Well, here is a picture, FINALLY!

I am now currently working on 3 projects: a purple flower pattern shawl made from 100% mercerized cotton from Jaeger Aqua Cotton DK Deep (purple) and using a size 2 hook; same shawl pattern with size 10 mercerized white cotton with an irridescent strand running through it, using a size 7 hook; and as always the basketweave afghan using a dark green worsted Red Heart yarn, using a size H hook. Pictures will be forthcoming and hopefully it won't take a year to publish them either.

I finally finished T's scarf! Yay!! Now that it's getting warmer, however. I hope she doesn't mind saving it until next winter.

My two major projects right now are my afghan and my Mom's prayershawl (which I broke down and told her I was making it for her-she said it made her feel loved! :) )

I'm used to the pattern for the afghan, now-I don't have it memorized 100%, but I can work on a row without double checking the instructions every 4 or 5 stitches. However, since the afghan is being made in one big piece, instead of several different panels-each row takes forever to knit. I think I get one or two-sometimes 3 rows done before I have to set my needles down and give my hands a rest.

My mom's prayershawl is a different story-sometimes I can only knit one row-maybe two, if the first row hasn't frustrated me to the point of dropping my needles on the ground. I was able to make a swatch of the snowflake pattern without any trouble-but I went from 24 stitches per row to 125 stitches-and sometimes even the slightest distraction will make me loose my place in the pattern. I"m constantly counting my stitches to make sure I can knit the next row without a problem. *sigh* I'm determined to finish it though-it just may take a while.

Speaking of the prayershawl-Peresph and I attended our second crochet club meeting a couple of weeks ago. This time it was held at Yarn Knits by Sue over on the West Side. They had some balls of the yarn I'm using for the prayershawl, so I picked up a couple more (I was afraid I might not have enough) Well, I know I took a chance-as soon as I got home I checked the dye lot-and it was the same as the yarn I bought over a year ago from a catalog! Talk about luck! ;) While we were there I also picked up a couple of balls of Sisik by Dale of Norway. Oooh, wool and mohair...I'm thinking of making a couple of hats with it. :)

Now, the question of the day: Will Ro ever post pics again? Time will tell! LOL.
(I have every intention to-reallly I do...) ;)

Inventory time!

I know, I know, I know-I need to post pictures. I'll get around to that someday. ;)

Well, the stitch-n-bitch that Perseph and I went to on the 6th turn out not to be at stitch-n-bitch, but a crochet club meeting. That was cool-they said I could stay. ;) It was at River Yarns in Rocky River-they have a crochet club and a knitting club that meets once a month. Also, during the club meetings you get a 10% discount at their store. It was really cool-everyone was really nice, and the owners didn't try to push us into buying their stuff. They were all friendly and informative-I even got a tip on an easier way to rip out a row and to place the stitches back on the needle. Yay! (since I had to do that on the project I was working on.) We loved it and hope to be able to attend both the crochet and knitting meetings. (We would have attended the knitting club meeting, but it was on Holy Thursday, and Perseph's sister was coming into town-YAY!) :-D

I started an inventory on all my knitting supplies-I started off with my needles and crochet hooks. I got a knitting pocket reference from Creative Knitting which has a page for hook and needle inventory-now when I start a new project, I'll know if I need new needles or not! (without digging through my stuff) ;) I also started to organize all of the patterns I had collected and printed out-most are in file folders with the pattern and the creator listed on the front of the folder...too many cool patterns, not enough time! I still need to do a yarn inventory-not that I have much, since I've only bought yarn to go with a pattern...although I do have the yarn from 'Mom's closet stash' that I got last year... (yay, Mom!!)

Speaking of too many patterns, the other day I got a new issue of Creative Knitting and a catalog from Mary Maxim at the same time. I had to throw both of them under some throw pillows just so I wouldn't look through them so I could finish my household chores! So many cool patterns...*sigh*

Actually knitting is going slowly at the moment-I do a couple of rows here and there, rip out a few rows here and there...knit them back up again-hopefully correctly the second time around. ;) Maybe I need to pick up a few projects that are in my UFO basket. I might get something done and feel as though I've accomplished something! ;) LOL.

Stitch-n-bitch report 1

Hello! Ok, no pics in this post-mainly because, well, the pictures are still in my camera-I have to download them, edit them, then upload them... I'll get around to posting them though-at least I hope I will! ;)

The stitch-n-bitch was alot of fun! We 'grazed' on snacks, worked on our projects, sent Dawn's husband out for pizza, then watched a couple of movies while working on some of our projects. We had 1 knitter, 2 crocheters, 2 cross-stitchers, and 1 person who was learning to crochet. (hey, we aren't picky about what you stitch! ;) ) So far, at these gatherings, I always seem to be in the minority. LOL. Even the kitties and the dog got into things (literally got into things.) ;)

I started an afghan for myself and worked on T's scarf. For some reason, the kitties really liked my needles and yarn, and no one else's. Why is that? LOL. Kim finished a baby blanket she was working on for a friend-it's really cute! I must get those pictures up. A couple of days later, Kim and I were talking about trying to make this a regular thing-maybe once a month, or once every two months at least (since we all seem to be very busy-but hopefully we'll be able to work something out). Perseph, we missed you! We hope you can make it to the next one. :) :)

I've also started working on a prayer shawl for my Mom-I'm using a snowflake pattern that I really liked in the little pattern book I have. I'm using the yarn I bought from Patternworks last year-it feels so good! I really like working with cotton and cotton blends. :)

Perseph and I are going to a stitch-n-bitch that's being hosted in a yarn store on April 6th-I've forgotten the name of the store, but Perseph knows where it is, and since she's the driver, it's all good. ;) We can't wait!

Hey, I finally finished Kyle's scarf!!! Now I just have to block it-I'll try to take some pictures while it's blocking. Now I just have to finish T's scarf, and all will be right with the world. ;)

My friend Kim is hosting a stitch-n-bitch next week, and I'm very excited. Not only will pals Perseph and Alicia be there, but I'll get to meet some of Kim's friends from work who are into knitting and crocheting. I'll bring my camera-'cause I'm sure there will be some amazing photo opportunities with her two cats, Cleo and Sweetums. They love the yarn and needles! ;) I haven't decided what I'll work on (hopefully I'll be finished with T's scarf before then). I might start an afghan for my sister, or work on a shawl for my mom. Or, I might just be selfish and work on something for me. ;) Or, I could work on something from my UFO box. *heehee*

I had been checking out various free issues of knitting magazines to see if subscribing to one would be worth it. I decided to give Creative Knitting a try-I'm so exicted-my subscription is for two years, plus I'll be getting a pocket guide to knitting as a free gift. Sweet!

Yikes! I totally missed the month of February!

Mostly because I haven't been doing much knitting at all-I still am working on a couple of scarves, but that's about it...I really need to get back into the swing of things.

I've been debating which projects to put back on the needles (from my 'on hold list') Probably my slouching socks...it would be nice to finish them before winter disappears! My mom's birthday is next month, and I wanted to knit something for her. Last year I purchased some yarn from Patternworks, which I had intended to make a shawl with-I just didn't get around to it. I'm still planning on making the shawl-I have an idea for a pattern I want to use-I'm just not sure I'll have it done by her birthday. I'm sure she'll understand if it's late, though. :) Maybe I'll cast it on tonight...

I picked up a copy of 'Stitch and Bitch Nation' while I was at the library the other day-I love those books by Debbie Stroller!! There's a pattern for a cardigan I'd like to try-it's called Fairly Easy Faire Isle. I want to learn how to knit faire isle, and I'm thinking about trying to teach it to myself...first I have to finish some of my other projects! LOL.

I decided to end the month of January with a couple of pictures of my nieces enjoying their Christmas presents! :)

The first one is of my Mom with Mellon-showing off her new cardigan. :)

Special thanks to my Mom, who helped me with the finishing. (Actually, since I was sick, she did most of the finishing so it would be ready by Christmas. THANK YOU, MOM!!! :) :) ) We didn't get the buttons on, but Al said that Mellon would probably rip them off anyway, so she didn't really need them. I left the buttons with our Mom just in case she changed her mind.

The next one is of Boo, looking cute in her new hat and scarf:

This was my first time working with a cable, and I was pleased with the results-I can't wait to try a bigger project with cables! Boo's gift was the only one that was 100% finished when I left for Minnesota. LOL.

That day Boo was going with her dad to spend time with his side of the family. As she was leaving, Al told her to leave the hat and scarf with her (since they were new), but Boo insisted on wearing them! Al gave in, and I told her that I was so happy that Boo loved the hat and scarf I made her. I was also excited that Mellon appeared to be enjoying the cardigan. Al looked at me and said, 'Well I love them and that's the important thing!' hahahahahaha... I'm glad they met with her approval. ;)

Hmmm...I must blog about knitting more. Hmmm...I need to knit more! LOL.

I'm still working on the scarves I didn't finish at Christmas-unfortunately, last time I tried to pick up the needles, I got a headache and had to put them down again after knitting a few rows. :( *sigh

I've been considering joining the Knitting Olympics, which I first heard about from reading KnitSteph. I dunno though-I'd like to finish up the scarves before starting anything new, and at the rate I'm going, I don't know if I'll be finished by Feb. 10th. We'll see though-I have a few more days before I have to decide. ;)

Christmas knits

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted here! I just completely ran out of time-I didn't even have much of a chance to post on my main blog...

*sigh* Well, I didn't quite finish all of my projects-Boo's hat and scarf set was the only thing I finished completely. I did finish the hat for T, but not the scarf. My mom's gift is still on the needles, as well as Kyle's. I didn't even get to start one for my sister. Mellon's cardigan was almost finished. My mom helped me with the finishing, but even then, we didn't get the buttons on. However, enough of it was complete that I decided to wrap it anyway-and we could put the button's on later. I did give T her hat as well. I'll have to send the stuff I didn't finish later.

The plan was to finish up while I was in Minnesota, but I got a cold and just didn't have the energy to knit fast enough. Al loves the stuff I made-especially the cardigan! She said that we didn't need to put the buttons on, 'cause Mellon would probably rip them off anyway. I left them with my mom just in case Al changes her mind. Most importantly, though-Boo loved her hat and scarf! She was going to visit with her Dad, and Al wanted her to leave her new scarf and hat-but Boo insisted on wearing them! I was so happy. :) I took some pictures of Boo and Mellon with their gifts, I'll have to upload them so I can post them soon. :)

The other day I was watching the Monster of Peladon with my friend Arthur and when Sarah Jane entered the scene, I turned to him and said, "I want to knit a sweater like that!" *heehee* It wouldn't be the first time Doctor Who inspired some knitting... ;)

I have one more sleeve to knit on Mellon's cardigan-then I can begin the finishing touches. Although I'm not so sure about these button holes... Since I'll be in Minnesota before Christmas, instead of stressing over it now, I'll ask my mom to help me with it. (Mom's are great like that. :) )

Boo and T's hats are completed, and I've started on the scarf for Boo-actually, I was up a little too late last night trying to design a pattern for the scarf. It's a simple design-hopefully it'll look good when completed. ;) I started a gift for my mom, but somewhere along the line I managed to increase too many stitches-haven't figured out how I managed that-but I'm guessing I miscounted my cast on. I think I've corrected the problem-hopefully I won't have to rip out the entire thing...

...still need to start Alison and Kyle's projects-ahhh!
Next time I'm starting Christmas knitting in July. ;)

I've decided that I'll post pictures of the completed Christmas projects after Christmas-hopefully with the kiddies wearing and enjoying their gifts! LOL. :-D

Wow, I have really ignored this blog this month. WEll, only sort of-I kept saying, 'I need to update RoKnits', but I just never got around to it. ;)

Knitting the past couple of weeks have been slow-I've been too busy trying to get things done around the house. Hopefully that'll change this week. ;) Kim and I have had a couple of Knit/Crochet days since the last time I posted, so it hasn't all been a waste. Kim's kitty, Cleo, loves the knitting needles! You'd think it'd be the yarn that attracts her attention-it does, but so do the needles! LOL. Kim managed to get a picture of her playing with my needles-I should post it soon. In fact, I should post something soon-it's been awhile since I've posted a picture of any of my projects!

Boo's hat is complete, and Mellon's cardigan is coming along. I've started on T's hat. The tassels for the hats are going to be made from JoAnn's Sensations Cello yarn-I want to complete both hats before I work on the scarves, because I'm planning on using a little bit of the Cello yarn for their scarves as well-I want to make sure that I have enough. :) I really need to get started on a couple of other Christmas projects-I have to get on the ball! Christmas is not too far away!

Several projects I'm working on are coming from pattern books that I checked out of the library-library books that are coming up on their maximum renewals. Yikes! On a different note, I received several invitations for a free trial issue of some knitting magazines. Since none of them asked for any account numbers or anything like that, I decided to try 3 of them. One is Creative Knits, but I can't remember the other two right at the moment. I am looking forward to those!

Hooray! I actually finished something! ;) *heehee* It's been a while, but I finally finished the hat and scarf set for Persephone, and she loves it!! Pics to come soon...

I aslo finished the back of Mellon's cardigan, and started working on a hat for Boo. I had trouble increasing on the hat-ended up pulling it out at least 3 times. It was quite frustrating, especially since I had to go from size 11s to size 10 1/2. I think I've got it now, and am currently working on the cable pattern for the hat. I'll try to take some pics, but I'm not sure if I can get a good enough resolution to show you the cables-the yarn has some dark purple in it, and in the past, taking a picture of dark purple yarn does not yield good results. But we'll see.

I think I have enough yarn for all my family Christmas projects...well, enough to get started at least. I'm a bit concerned that I didn't get enough yarn for T and Boo's gifts (might need more for the scarves). I've also decided that I'm making smaller gifts form my sister and my mom-and will save the larger projects for Mother's Day. If I had been on the ball, I would have started the Christmas projects much earlier than this-and probably would have had time to knit the original gifts! *sigh ;)

I need to start bringing my knitting to work again! Also, Kim and I are planning an Knit/Crochet day, soon. Hopefully we'll be able to coordinate with Perseph, too!

Yarn sale!

Oooooh, JoAnn's is having a yarn sale this week! Plus, I have coupons! Perseph, let's go! I've been thinking about giving Moda-Dea Ricochet a try, (for T and Boo) and found out that there's a sale going on this weekend. I was talking to my friend Agnes, and she pointed out that Wool-Ease is also on sale-sweeT! I can use that to make something for Kyle (nice, solid, not-so-girly colors) ;)

Speaking of gifts, I started Mellon's cardigan on Saturday. I'm using Caron Simply soft baby sport yarn instead of Red Heart Fleece, and so far, the gauge checks out (number of stitches/inch-need to knit a few more rows before I can check rows/inch) The pattern requires you to start out with smaller needles and switch to bigger ones-no problem. Last night I was knitting along happily, got slightly disctracted so I had to put down my needles. When I started up again, I discovered that I had picked up the wrong needle, and had started another row with the smaller needles again. I tried to start the row over, but ended up ripping all the stitches out and starting completely over! (Perseph was having a similar experience with her crocheting over the weekend-I feel her pain!) That's what I get for leaving the smaller needles out where I can reach them. This time, my cast on looked much neater, so in a way, it's a good thing I picked up the wrong needle when I did! ;)

Since the number of rows between color changes are so few, I'm experimenting with carrying the yarn not in use up with my work. My Doctor Who scarf, Perseph's prayer shawl, and Mellon's baby blanket all had color changes, but they were so few (or in the case of the Who scarf, so many different colors at different widths) that trying to carry the colors not in use would have been a bit unreasonable. The cardigan, however, only has two colors, and the color swithes often enough that it might be worthwhile. Having to weave in so many loose ends at the end would be terribly annoying, and might look sort of messy. So far, so good, but I've only had to switch colors twice. ;) When I get a little farther along I'll post a picture.

Well, I finally ordered more yarn to finish my slouching socks...

...unfortunately, they have been put on a stitch holder and will be put in the 'on hold' box. ;) I need the needles!

I decided to put the slouching socks and the wave and shell shawl on hold for now and start working on other things. I'm making the hat and scarf set for Perseph (don't worry, she already knows! She needed a hat for the winter. :)) I still need to get another skein of blue ridge to finish off the scarf, so that's the goal for this weekend (yay, JoAnn coupons!) Since it's my first venture with knitting in the round, I will probably continue to work on my multi effects socks from time to time.

Speaking of my multi effects socks, I had a hair-raising experience with them last week. I was over at Perseph's, working on the sock, when I noticed that I had dropped a stitch about 2 rounds before. (how i didn't notice that before then, I'll never know...) I dug into my bag and discovered I had the wrong size crochet needle (I had been using E to rescue dropped sock stitches-I only had a G with me) So I asked Perseph if I could borrow the smallest hook she had. I think it was a 10, maybe? You know, the kind that can be used to make doilies-very small hook. Due to the nature of that particular hook, it had a tendency to snag the yarn while I was trying to rescue the dropped stitches. I think I dropped at least 3 more before I was able to take control of the sock and fix it. Yikes! It was a learning (and very trying) experience. The good thing is, if it ever happens again, I know I am capable of rescuing dropped stitches-as long as I am patient!

I think the first Christmas project I will be working on will be a Cuddly Cardigan for my niece, Mellon. Hopefully I will have it finished before I go to Minnesota this Christmas (unlike last year, when I was finishing her baby blanket the day she was born! In my defense, I did finish it before she actually arrived. *heehee*)

I haven't been making much progress lately-summer is just a lazy season-too lazy to be knitting. ;)

Well, actually, I'm almost finished with the scarf for the hat and scarf set, and my multi effects socks...er, well, the first sock, is coming along-slowly, but coming along. I've discovered the farther along you get, the easier knitting with 5 needles becomes. ;)

I discovered that there is a Stitch-n-Bitch gathering near me-around the Cedar/Lee area. Unfortunately it's the same night as taco night. Perhaps I should get together with some of my friends around town and have our own gathering (on a non-taco night, of course! LOL)

Christmas is coming (well, not for a while yet) but with the rate I've been going with my knitting, I need to start on those projects soon. I've been considering putting aside all projects that are not intended for people and just concentrating on the gifts. Of course that means starting a couple of new projects before finishing anymore! LOL, I'm gathering quite a collection of UFOs. ;)

Whoa, I haven't posted here for quite a while! Time for a few updates.

First, I still need to order more yarn for my slouching socks-I'm just really lazy and have other things to work on, so I haven't gotten around to it yet. Here are my socks as they are at this point:

I didn't do as much knitting as I would have liked while I was on vacation. I did make sure I had some time to have my mom show me how to use dpns. The bamboo ones I had weren't working out so well, so my mom gave me a spare set of size 3 alluminum dpns that she had. Actually, one evening we raided all her knitting/crocheting supplies-I have several crochet hooks of various sizes, some stitch holders, a cable needle, and several sets of dpns of various sizes. We also went through her yarn-I have some really pretty acrylic yarn, and some left over wool from a project or two. I even have some 100% virgin wool that was used for argyle socks! The pattern the yarn came with is quite old-as is the yarn! I have a one oz skein of gray Power's yarn (distributed by Powers Dry Good Co in Minneapolis, MN-do they still exist?)and 2 skeins of Bear Brand yarn-one oz each, one pink, the other a blueish-gray, and a very, very tiny ball of light green yarn. I'm not sure if I have enough of this yarn to make the argyle socks in the pattern, but maybe one day, if I'm feeling adventurous enough, I'll give it a try and try to make at least one argyle sock. ;)

I haven't been knitting as much since I got back from vacation-I've either been too busy, or it's been too hot to knit. (I finally put my A/C in (well, Jerm did it for me) yesterday, plus it's finally cooled down a little bit-go figure!) I have been working on somethings here and there. The problem is I want to start on several more projects! Ah, what to do, what to do. ;) I better get a move on-some of the things I have in mind need to be done by December! LOL ;)

wave and shell

So 2 Saturdays ago, I decided to try to find some more yarn for my socks. I called every Jo-Ann's and Michaels in the area-nobody had my yarn. It was all sold out! When I first purchased it, I had no idea that it was considered seasonal. I even tried Hobby Lobby in Media-they didn't have it. *sigh* It looks like I'm going to have to order more yarn online.

I started working on my wave and shell shawl quite a while ago-so now I'm finally getting around to posting some progress pics.

Here's an overall view of the shawl-I'm about one fifth of the way finished, I think. I'm planning on working on it while I'm in Minnesota-I just better remember to bring enough yarn in case my mom decides she wants to work on it! LOL ;)

I love the way the pattern is coming together-I love trying new stitches (it's even better when they turn out right!) ;) I started a stitch swatch (try saying that three times fast...) for another project I'm working on, but I haven't been able to get a decent picture of the swatch. It either comes out too dark or too light, and when I try to edit the picture, it looses the pattern and becomes this big purple square. Remind me next time when I make a test swatch of stitches, to use a lighter colored yarn. ;)

Hmm...well, it's been a while since I posted. I'm still working on the same three projects. ;) I've finished enough of the wave and shell shawl that you can see the pattern, so I'll try to take a picture of it this weekend and post it here. Been a while since I posted pictures of my progress as well.

I have a coupon for Jo-Ann's, so tonight I'm hoping to purchase my first set of double pointed needles. :) Haven't needed dpns yet, but I do have a sock pattern that requires them. I can't wait until I go to Minnesota next month-I'm hoping my mom and I will have some time to knit together! :)

Speaking of socks, I must remember to pick up more yarn for my slouching socks before I run out...

I've been knitting, but I haven't been posting. Marcon was a blast! I even had somebody take a picture of me with my Doctor Who scarf, I just haven't gotten around to posting it yet.

I finished one sock! I started the other, but I am going to have to make a trip to JoAnn's before I finish it. (while I'm there I should pick up some more yarn for the scarf I'm still working on, so I can finish that up.) ;) Since I successfully completed one sock, I started another project. I'm working on a wave and shell shawl-I saw KnitSteph working on one, and fell in love with it. I was very excited when she posted a link to the pattern! :)

Back to the socks-I'm very excited about them. I love seeing a pattern come together as I knit it, and to date, I think this has been the most difficult pattern I've worked on. When I finished the first sock, I looked at it and went, 'wow! I actually made that!' Kinda silly, huh? 0:-)

Well, I don't know how much knitting I will get done this weekned-I'm back down to Columbus again. :) This time I'm traveling with Perseph, Paul and Arthur-we are going to visit Karen! :) Not as geeky as last weekend, but I am sure some geekiness will be present. LOL. ;) Perseph and I are bringing our yarn, hooks and needles, but I'm not sure how much we'll actually accomplish. Perseph might accomplish something-'cause she can crochet just about anywhere-even while riding in a car (she's awesome like that!) *heehee*

Haven't had alot of free time to knit, so I haven't started any new projects this past week. But I have worked on my sock!

The first half of heel went really well-came out perfect! The second half, though-I don't know what I was doing-I had to pull out the stitches twice, but I finally finished shaping the heel. Now I'm working on knitting the foot-I've knitted 5 inches so far-only one more inch and I'm on to shaping the toe. It's starting to look more like a sock now. Yay!

I was planning on working on the sock during my television shows, but NCIS left me so upset that I didn't feel like picking up my needles at all. *sigh* I'll probably work on it some more tomorrow and Thursday. :) This weekend I won't be doing any knitting at all, though-cause I'll be at Marcon all weekend. :) :) Part of one of my costumes I'll be wearing this weekend was my first knitting project-my Doctor Who scarf!! I know I talked about it in my main blog, but I'm not sure if I ever posted a picture of it...guess I'll have to rectify that sometime! ;)

sock update

Well, most of the yarn that I ordered has finally arrived! The Super Socks Yarn is backordered, so I don't know when I'll get that. It's estimated to be shipped in the beginning of July...wow, that's some backorder!! ;) That's ok, I have projects in mind for all the yarn that did arrive. :)

Speaking of projects, here is a pic of the sock I am working on-the one I promised to post this past weekend (oopss..ran out of time.) ;)

This was taken during Knit/Crochet Day 3-doesn't look much like a sock...

Today: It still doesn't look much like a sock, but I'm almost ready to start shaping the heel. Yay! So far the pattern is fairly simple to work-it just takes time. :) Like I said in my previous post, I really like the way the pattern is forming on the sock.

quick progress report

I had every intention of taking some time during my lunch break today (well, technically I guess it's yesterday) to post a quick update about the progress on my projects...unfortunately I started knitting and before I knew it, my lunch hour was up! ;)

I did run out of yarn while working on the scarf. :( This is odd because according to the labels, I should have had the same amount of both colors. Now I know you're going to say 'well, it's not perfect', but we're talking about quite a bit of yarn. I figure I have almost a fourth of a skein left of my multi color yarn, and I ran out of blue. Even considering a few inches here and there (like if my cast on was uneven, or the amount of yarn wasn't exact), it's still quite a bit of yarn. Unfortunately I can't exactly take it back to the store and say, 'hey, you short-changed me!', since I've already made a hat and most of a scarf out of it. The good news is the weather should be warmer, so Persephone shouldn't be needing a hat or scarf anytime soon. ;)

The sock is turning out great! After the first row, knitting the pattern became alot easier. I love the way the pattern is starting to form on the sock. I took a picture of it, but I forgot to upload it...that'll be my goal for this weekend. ;)

Well, that's all for now...I am quite tired, so I'm going to bed! 'Nighty Nite! :)

Knit/Crochet Day 3!

Tomorrow is our third knit/crochet day! I'm looking forward to it-especially since I don't know when our next get together will be-the rest of my weekends in May are looking to be pretty busy... *sigh*

The scarf is coming along nicely-I'm still a little worried that I might not have enough yarn to complete it, but it's about halfway done, so we'll see.

I also started another project from the book I picked up at the library, Easy Knitted Accessories by Jeanette Trotman. Slouching socks! It's another pattern that doesn't require dpns. I'm still planning on learning to knit in the round, I just wanted to give this pattern a try. I've only been able to knit one row so far-I was having a little difficulty with the row. I'm hoping that the next few rows will be easier to knit now that I've gone beyond the cast on. I'm sure the yarn I'm using isn't making it any easier-it's Sugar and Cream yarn by Lily (100% cotton and the strands come apart without any effort at all). That's ok-the yarn was on sale and this project was meant as a learning experience. LOL.

Speaking of yarn, I sent in an order for the yarn for my Mom's gift today! She knows I'm making her something, but she doesn't know what it is, so on the off chance that she's actually reading this, I'm just going to refer to it as 'Mom's Gift'. ;)

First of all, I'd like to say, Welcome, Persephone! :) I'm so glad you are here! :)

Next-I finished the hat for my hat and scarf set, and I think I'm about a third of the way finished with the scarf-maybe a little more. It's a bit wider than I first thought it would be, so I'm hoping I have enough yarn to finish it off.

This was taken just after I finished the decreasing for the crown. Neat, huh? Kinda looks a little bit like a skirt...or a window valance lol. ;) The next picture I post will be the completed set. :)

A Home for my Sunset Rug

Woo-hoo! This is my inaugural post for Roknits and I'm so excited I'm about to plotz. ;) Anywho, I had been working since January on a rug for my living room, however because my brother got a rug from Crate and Barrel for $5 (retail price: $400) and since it really looks a lot nicer in the living room the sunset aztec rug has been put away for now. I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with it since it is a bit big (6' diameter) but an opportunity came up that would allow me to give it a good home - donate it for a raffle for the dialysis center.
The proceeds will go to buying food cards for some of the indigent patients.

It's being raffled off Friday, May 20. I'll make sure to post a pic of the rug before it goes to its new happy home.

Yay! I finished the prayershawl! Unfortunately, my digital camera is still acting up, so the pictures I took didn't turn out. It seems to work fine outside during the day, so if it's nice out, I'll try to take a picture of it outside tomorrow. I'll go into more details when I get the picture up.

I'm still working on the hat I started last week-I'm ready to start the decreasing for the top of the hat. If I have enough yarn left over I'll make a scarf to go with it. I have a feeling that I'll probably have to purchase more yarn for the scarf, though...

Speaking of purchasing yarn, I'm planning on purchasing some yarn from Patternworks to make a gift for my mom. It'll be a belated birthday/mother's day gift. :) I've had my eye on the Svale yarn, and I know exactly what I'm going to make with it... :-D

Woo-hoo! So, our second knit/crochet day was quite productive. We had a better idea of what we wanted to do, so we got right down to business.

I'm getting close to finishing the prayer shawl I'm working on. I started the last color change yesterday afternoon:

Unfortunately my digital camera is acting up, so that's the best shot I got of it.

I also started working on a hat:

Since I haven't learned to knit in the round yet, the pattern I'm using for the hat does not require double pointed needles. Kim started to crochet a baby blanket, and it's looking really pretty-the center of the blanket has a flower in it. She was trying some new skills with this blanket, and so far it's looking pretty good!

After our day of knitting/crocheting, Kim and I headed over to JoAnn's to check the prices of some things. We both ended up getting something-Kim picked up a couple of pattern books, and I picked up some cheap yarn for yet another project I'm thinking of starting. While we were waiting in line, the woman ahead of us gave us her coupons that she couldn't use, so it was all good. :)

We haven't decided when our next project day will be, but we're hoping it'll be soon!

Knit/Crochet day 2!

Okay, so I did a little updating to the side bar-not much, just added a few knitting resources-I'll add more in the future, plus a few blog links.

Tomorrow (well, technically today) Kim and I are getting together for our second knit/crochet day. Let us hope we get more accomplished on our projects! I'm still working on the prayer shawl, but I might start working on a hat as well (oooh, venturing into starting one project before another is completed! ;)) This is the yarn I plan to use:

(Lion Brand-homespun yarn)

Hopefully my digital camera will work so I can take some more pics. I somehow managed to break the little door that holds the batteries in place, and as a result, I lost some of the progress pictures I had taken of the prayer shawl. :( Well, it is a cheap camera...but still! *sigh*

Okay, well, I decided to try creating a blog that's devoted to my knitting, since I seem to be doing it alot lately, and have more projects in mind...

My main blog will still be Wandering Through E-Space, and I'll probably be posting to it more than I do here. This is just so I can talk about knitting, post pics of yarn I've purchased, and works in progress. (I'll still be posting first images and final images on my main blog...)

Since I seriously need to update my main site, I'm just going to use the template from Blogger for now. I'll be adding links soon, and maybe a pic or two, but any drastic changes to the template will have to wait until I've updated my main site. Here goes nuttin! ;)
